SCtoMP3 is built to collect as little as possible. This page explains what we do collect, why, and what you can do about it.

The short version

You can use SCtoMP3 without an account. We don’t sell your data, we don’t show ads and we don’t keep a list of the tracks you download on our servers.

We only store an email address if you buy a Supporter pass, so we can unlock your features and let you log in.

What we collect

When you convert a track: the SoundCloud link you paste is sent to our servers so we can fetch and convert the audio. We don’t link it to you or store it in a database.

Supporters: your email address, your pass status and its end date. When you log in we also store a 4-digit login code and its expiry time until the code is used or expires (after one hour).

Technical data: like every website, our servers receive your IP address and basic request details. We use the IP address briefly to limit how many requests one visitor can make per minute, which protects the service from abuse.

Analytics: see the next section.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how many people visit, which pages they use and what devices they use. Google Analytics sets its own cookies and receives information such as pages viewed, approximate location, browser and device type.

You can block it with a browser extension or by using Google’s opt-out add-on. SCtoMP3 works the same either way.

Cookies and browser storage

We keep this to what the site needs to work:

  • Login cookie: set only when a Supporter logs in, to keep you logged in for up to 30 days. It is removed when you log out.
  • Session storage: briefly remembers whether you are a Supporter so pages load without flicker. It is cleared when you close the tab.
  • Local storage: keeps a count of your downloads from the last 24 hours, shown on your account page. It stays in your browser and is never sent to us.
  • Analytics cookies: set by Google Analytics, as described above.

Payments

Supporter passes are paid through Ko-fi. Ko-fi and its payment providers handle your card or PayPal details; we never see or store them.

After a payment, Ko-fi tells us the email address used and which pass was bought, so we can activate it.

How we use your data

  • To convert and deliver the files you ask for.
  • To activate your Supporter pass, send login codes and send a confirmation email after you pay.
  • To answer you when you email us.
  • To keep the service running, prevent abuse and understand how it is used.

Who we share it with

We don’t sell or rent personal data. We use a small number of providers that process data on our behalf:

  • Supabase: our database, which stores Supporter emails and pass details.
  • Our email provider: delivers login codes and payment confirmations.
  • Ko-fi: processes payments.
  • Google: provides Google Analytics.
  • Our hosting provider: runs the servers the site lives on.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

How long we keep it

  • Login codes: until used, or one hour at most.
  • Supporter email and pass details: for as long as you have or may renew a pass, or until you ask us to delete them.
  • Request data used for rate limiting: kept in memory for a few minutes only.
  • Converted audio: processed temporarily to build your file, then discarded.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us to show, correct or delete the personal data we hold about you. Email [email protected] from the address in question and we will reply within 30 days.

You can clear the cookies and storage in your browser at any time, and log out from the header to remove the login cookie.

Children

SCtoMP3 is not aimed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has bought a pass, contact us and we will delete their details.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle data, we will update this page and the date at the top. Significant changes will be highlighted on the site.
